  Example Formatting Our classroom libraries are packed with some pretty incredible books but have we covered all the genres in children's literature. If I asked you how many genres there are in children's literature, could you name them. How would you like me to make it easier for you? There are (8) different genres in children's literature. I will describe each of them and give you some pretty amazing books to add to your classroom libraries. These will include picture books, chapter books, poetry and prose as well as some multicultural books. Basically, you want to have books that your children can relate to and that will allow them to kindle their love and passion for reading.  I will also share some lesson extension (motivational activities) for each book along with open-ended questions to spark the reader's comprehension about the text.  Non-Fiction - Informational books that explain, describe, or inform about a subject or concept using facts about the real world ...

Turn up the Music and Dance!

  The purpose of this blog is to reflect on and address music, movement, and imagination in the STR²EAM preschool classroom. I will be sharing my thoughts on Music, Movement, and Make-Believe in the Preschool Classroom, Nature Jam’s Preschool Prodigies Pilot-Sweet Beets-Rhythm Lesson, and Song for Kids. I will also discuss my thoughts on the story Violet’s Music. As early childcare professionals, we should develop the ability to analyze educational materials. We should obviously focus on the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards adopted in the Fall of 2017. As we share different modes of technology, through the use of videos, music, and books our goal is to provide concrete lesson extensions that strengthen the domains within the standards for each child individually as well as in a whole group or small group setting. Ramps and Pathways

As an early childhood educator for the past 30 years, I have seen many different types of curriculums in Pre-K come and go. Many of which include hands-on-learning experiences. I am intrigued by a curriculum that has been around for quite some time. Yet, as a coach of Pre-K teachers I have never seen it implemented in any of the early childhood classrooms that I have observed in. Why is this curriculum such a secret? Did you know that Ramps and Pathways (R&P) supports STEM education? STEM stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This curriculum engages young learners by identifying and stimulating their interest. They activate their prior knowledge and experiences while capitalizing their natural curiosity.  Children learn about cause-and-effect.
